Oulu Museum and Science Centre – re-imagined

The Oulu Museum and Science Centre is retiring the Luuppi brand.

In the future, the individual museums will operate under their own brands with the Oulu Museum and Science Centre as the body responsible for museum work in North Ostrobothnia. The profiles of the individual museums will be refreshed over the coming years, starting with the rebranding of the Oulu Art Museum.

As the body responsible for museum work within the region, the Oulu Museum and Science Centre produces, archives and exhibits North science, art and history, and promotes cooperation around the themes in the region. As the regional museum in charge, we carry out official tasks and provide expert services in our field. Our main tasks are public outreach, building of collections and preservation of cultural heritage and scientific capital.

SPOTLIGHT ON MUSEUMS

The Oulu Museum and Science Centre’s individual museums include the Oulu Art Museum, Science Centre Tietomaa, the North Ostrobothnia Museum, Kierikki Stone Age Centre and Turkansaari Open Air Museum, as well as the specialty museums Oulunsalo Museum of Local History and Culture, Sailor’s Home Museum, Pateniemi Sawmill Museum and Oulu Castle Cellar. The individual museums offer access to learning, experience and history and open doors to experiences that build knowledge, understanding and leadership.

In the coming years and by 2026, the brands and concepts of the individual museums will be gradually redesigned. Individual brands allow the museums to create a deeper relationship with their target groups and highlight their own message. Their common goal is to spark up a love for North science, art and history.

“The redesign implements the Museum and Science Centre’s fresh strategy and clarifies the profiles of the individual museums while developing the Museum and Science Centre as an entity that develops new forms of cooperation” Pekka Olsbo, Director of the Museum and Science Centre.

TANGIBLE STEPS TOWARDS THE CULTURE CAPITAL YEAR

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the first of our museums to be rebranded is the Oulu Art Museum. To mark the occasion, we are proud to show our new logo, visual identity and communication style.

We want to remind everyone that art is ours: the collections of the art museum are shared by the community and belong to everyone living in the city. We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience art and work towards this goal.

In November, the Oulu Museum and Science Centre and all the visitor attractions will launch their new websites.

We also prepare for the Capital of Culture year by building something new. A new museum and science centre will open in Myllytulli, on the site of the current Tietomaa premises. The new building will house Tietomaa, the North Ostrobothnia Museum and most of the staff of the Museum and Science Centre. Construction will start in 2024.
